The main objective of Applied Eskrima is overall improvement of your Reflex Speed and Cognitive Ability. It is accomplished by following specific drills and then specially designed sparring drills and free style sparring. The learning starts with using the stick as the main weapon or tool and progress to bladed weapons and finally to empty hands applications. All the movements using the stick can easily be duplicated by using bladed weapons or empty hands. Footwork is also taught and even during the first few weeks are emphasized.
The students are taught to think ahead ....... Like attack safely: It means that when you are attacking you must take into consideration how the opposing party would likely defend or respond. If you think that way, you will be one or two steps ahead and can then attack safely !
Like defend intelligently: It means that when you are defending or blocking an incoming strike, punch, elbow or kick you must make sure your body is positioned well.
One of the best defensive move is to be at the opponents side, either left or right. If you are able to accomplish that, you are able to isolate half of the opponent's ability to defend or harm you. If you are able to do that, you are also in the best position to finish the confrontation quickly since his vulnerable body parts are within easy access.
The bottom line: With Applied Eskrima, your reflex speed will improve and that means you have a much better chance of defending yourself with or without the use of weapons....... Master V
